PainEcho

Your pain, mirrored. Your progress, measured.

PainEcho is a smart mirror designed for chronic pain management. The mirror is located in the patient’s home where they are prompted to log their pain experiences as they pass, allowing them to integrate pain tracking into their daily routine with intuitive gestures. This data can then be shared with their healthcare provider who can create a personalised treatment plan for the patient and monitor their condition's progression over time.

The team conducted qualitative research, with both patients and healthcare providers, and found that there was a communication gap between the two. Patients expressed often feeling unheard and dismissed, a sentiment some providers acknowledged. The team also learned that patients struggled to track their health progress, especially when it came to chronic conditions. This was supported by desk research, which confirmed the importance of detailed pain logs for effective patient-provider communication and treatment.

Next steps for the team involve conducting more research on providers and those with chronic conditions to understand challenges that may be encountered with the mirror and data sharing.
