A Gentle Timekeeper for Shared Spaces
Linee (Italian for “Lines”) is a tactile clock and intentionally low-fidelity daily planner designed for shared living spaces. It offers a simple, physical way to indicate when something is happening, without alarms, screens, or notifications. Instead of precise scheduling, Linee provides a more ambient, flexible way to stay aware of daily rhythms.
Each hour is represented by a wooden time block that can be pressed to mark events. A moving needle triggers a subtle “knock” upon reaching a pressed block, creating a gentle moment of recognition. The semi-transparent numbers allow soft light to pass through, providing discreet visibility without drawing attention."
Linee features rewritable magnetic tiles that can be easily placed on the timeline, allowing users to add notes or symbols as needed. Designed for roommates, families, or cohabitants, it is particularly suited for non-urgent reminders, like shared meals, casual check-ins, or personal rituals. Its physicality encourages a more natural and tactile relationship with time.
Linee isn’t just a clock, nor is it a calendar. Instead, it's a new way to create soft reminders that blend into daily life. By shifting away from rigid timekeeping and digital notifications, it reintroduces an intuitive, human-scaled way of managing daily life—one that prioritizes presence over precision.
Through the prototyping process, the team learned the importance of the advice “just put it in the box”—meaning, it’s often impossible to foresee many of the practical challenges of physical product design until you actually start assembling it close to its final form.
