Discover Astino, step by step.
Astinova is a walking app designed to inspire people to explore Astino Valley on foot on weekends. By transforming the exploration of the region into an engaging and interactive experience, it encourages daily commuters—who may pass through the valley regularly but rarely take the time to explore it—to step away from their routine and immerse themselves in the valley’s natural beauty.
How It Works
At the heart of Astinova is an interactive map that evolves as users explore the area. Initially shown in grey, the map gradually fills with colour and reveals new details and facts as users explore the valley on foot—a fun, step-by-step discovery, just like scratching off a travel journal. The app also fosters connection, allowing friends to challenge each other to explore further, plan group walks, and join local events.
The Concept
Research revealed that many people perceive Astino Valley as exclusive or lacking in diverse activities. While the area is known and promoted for its biodiversity, there is a widespread belief that opportunities to engage with it are limited. Astinova was developed to challenge these perceptions, making exploration both exciting and attainable.
Values & Learnings
The team’s main goal was to promote sustainable tourism by encouraging foot traffic over car usage as well as preserving the valley’s tranquility while fostering socio-economic diversity. During the design process, it became clear that a holistic approach is essential to promote the accessibility of Astino Valley. Both community-led exploration as well as the incorporation of practical features—such as maps and information—are necessary to create an engaging experience.
