CIID Poke-GO

Gotta Catch 'Em All

A lightning-fast Pokémon capture game that turns a physical cylinder prototype into an augmented reality playground, powered by color detection technology.

How does it work?
Imagine a tech-powered hunt where an ESP32 Arduino and a color sensor transform Pokémon posters into a real-time capture challenge. Our custom-designed posters feature high-contrast, saturated colors that the sensor detects quickly. Players race against a 60-second countdown, scanning and capturing 12 Pokémon before time runs out – think Pokémon GO meets hardware hacking! If you capture all 12 Pokémon, the LEDs light up in the shape of the Italian flag as a reward.

Why did our research lead to this solution?
We wanted to break the boundaries between digital and physical gaming. Our goal was to transform a standard atrium into an interactive tech experience by pushing the limits of microcontroller and sensor innovation.

What is the value?

  • Advanced sensor calibration that enhances real-time detection
  • Creative embedded systems that engage engineers and developers
  • An interactive experience that makes learning fun
  • A novel approach to color detection that challenges traditional methods

What were our learnings?

  • Sensor calibration requires precision, especially under varying lighting conditions
  • The physical and digital worlds can merge into immersive experiences
  • Time constraints foster creativity – we built this entire game in less than 24 hours!
