Catch

Discover the glow of the night sky

Catch is a weather app designed specifically for astrophotography, helping users locate stars. It considers the user's current location and orientation to identify the position of specific constellations. Based on weather data, Catch recommends the best days for stargazing within the next 10 days, taking into account factors such as cloud cover, temperature, sky visibility, light pollution, and the moon's size and phase. Additionally, it suggests the most visible constellations based on the current season and date, and provides map-based recommendations for optimal locations for star photography.

Catch is tailored for users who have a strong interest in astrophotography but lack professional experience. Photographing stars involves considering many factors, which can be overwhelming for beginners. Catch addresses this by presenting information clearly and intuitively.

Market research shows existing astrophotography apps vary significantly in functionality, leading professionals to use three to five apps simultaneously. Managing multiple apps is cumbersome because users must manually compile information to identify suitable photography dates. This project started from the question: "Can we reduce this inconvenience by consolidating essential information intuitively into a single app?"

Catch enables non-experts to more easily engage with astrophotography and constellation observation, significantly reducing the risk of photography failure due to overlooked factors beyond weather.

Throughout this project, I learned how transitions and animations in display-based product design can make user experiences more natural and engaging. I applied these insights practically, using Origami Studio to enhance my ability to implement dynamic transitions effectively
