Tom Manning is a designer and graphic novelist based in Oakland, California.As a designer Tom has a rich history of creative direction and consulting across a wide variety of design disciplines including user experience, design research, print, web, and mobile design, branding, and motion graphics. He has led multidisciplinary design teams within frog design, GE, and Amgen; served as a Creative Lead on Google’s Material Design team, art directed such magazines as Filter, Mean, and frog design’s Design Mind; and has collaborated as a writer, illustrator, and designer a number of books including Eating Animals with Jonathan Safran Foer, Mobile Money Afghanistan, In the Hands of God, and Journeys for Water with Jan Chipchase.Tom has written, illustrated, and lettered graphic novels for over 15 years, including the critically acclaimed books Eric (2018) and Runoff (2015).Tom has taught at the Yale School of Art’s graphic design MFA program, CCA’s graphic design undergraduate program, and CCA’s graduate design research program.Manning has a BFA in Art History and the Visual Arts from Occidental College and an MFA in Graphic Design from the Yale School of Art.
