Stefan Andrén was born in Stockholm, Sweden, and is a designer with significant global experience working with some of the largest companies and brands in the world. Stefan’s work has received international recognition, and has been featured in numerous publications including Business Week, ID Magazine, Wired, Dwell Magazine, Men’s Journal, Design Interior, and FORM. His work has been awarded multiple IDEA, ID Magazine, and Red Dot design awards.Stefan is the founder of Krown Lab; a design and manufacturing company with its head quarters in Portland, Oregon, specializing in the creation of iconic yet perfectly timeless products for modern and contemporary dwellings and interior space. The company occasionally and strategically undertakes architecture and interior design projects.Stefan is the Product Design Director for the headphone brand Atomic Floyd, where Stefan is responsible for all aspects of design, ranging from product and packaging, to design philosophy and creative product strategy. Atomic Floyd’s first range of products just landed in Apple’s European retail in June. Independently and together with long time collaborator Scott Wilson of MINIMAL Studios in Chicago, Stefan strategically consults for some of the largest companies in the world such as Microsoft, and Nike.Stefan was until 2007 the Design Director for Nike TechLab, and responsible for creating product, user interface, and packaging solutions for product initiatives codeveloped with Nike’s multiple technology partners, including Apple and Philips. Stefan was part of Nike+ from its birth in 2004, and worked initially as part of small cross functional team to define the overall consumer experience of the system, and was later responsible for driving the design of the Nike+ product range.While at Nike, Stefan designed everything from wrist wear and consumer electronics to soft goods and integrated wearable technology. His products created significant IP for the company in the form of Utility Patents related to both function, construction, and user interface. Products Stefan was part of designing and developing are among a few of the most profitable SKUs in recent Nike history.Prior to Nike, Stefan worked for Motorola in Milan, Italy. In addition to working on new platform products, he was part of the global team driving the company’s global product design language. He has also worked for the design consulting firm Herbst Lazar Bell in Chicago, consulting for clients like Dell, Unilever, Hayworth, Amgen, Kodak, Microsoft, and others.With a strong interest in teaching, Stefan has lectured at design schools and design related conferences in Italy, Sweden, Denmark, and the United States. He was an Adjunct Professor of Industrial Design at The University of Illinois at Chicago until moving to Italy in 2001. Stefan left for the Unites States after high school on an athletic collage scholarship to play tennis. After first having studied Mechanical Engineering and Architecture, he received his Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction in Industrial Design in 1997 from the University of Illinois at Chicago. He then studied independently under Professor Stan Kong at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.Stefan lives and works out of Portland, Oregon in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
