Sarah Fathallah (they/she) is a designer, researcher, and educator, who specializes in applying participatory design and research to the social sector, and cares about shifting the way we engage communities in research and design processes in less paternalistic, extractive, and harmful ways. They have worked on engagements in over 20 countries, on topics ranging from reproductive health to labor organizing, with impact-driven organizations such as the International Domestic Workers Federation, the International Rescue Committee, and Open Society Foundations. Sarah’s design work has been recognized by the Core77 Design Awards, the International Design Excellence Awards, and the GSMA mWomen Design Challenge, to name a few.Sarah is a graduate of Sciences Po Paris, where they studied International Business and Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Affairs. They also studied design innovation at the Paris Est d.school, user experience design at General Assembly, and participatory design at MIT. In addition to being a visiting faculty at CIID, Sarah teaches service design and UX research at the UC Berkeley Extension School, and has guest lectured at a number of educational institutions, including Arizona State University, Georgetown University, Glasgow School of Art, Northwestern University, Pratt Institute, the School of Visual Arts, and Stanford University.
