Elena is an independent design director based in New York City. She has an extensive background in digital editorial design and innovation and she applies her expertise on social impact projects.Elena worked for the New York Times for almost 7 years before starting to freelance, where she lead the redesign of the Times home page, developed new features merging editorial judgement and machine learning, and she was part of the team researching the Times Innovation Report, named by Nieman Lab “one of the key documents of this media age”.In her work, Elena focuses on system design and human-centered design processes. She is a design leader that specializes in building a culture of innovation through collaboration across disciplines.Elena has a background in computer science, media studies and interaction design. She loves to work at the intersection of those disciplines.
