Eddy Synthesiser

We were interested in experimenting with current and magnetism. For this one day project, we chose to explore how eddy currents are produced when magnetic fields interact. The motive was to build a basic synthesiser.

By using a copper coil and a magnet we were able to produce reverse currents or eddy currents in the circuit. Building upon that, we connected an amplification and oscillation circuit to produce sound.

We were able to produce different kinds of sounds by changing the amount of current and frequencies. The final prototype worked by moving a magnet inside a copper coil while holding two electrodes across a finger, producing different sounds, based on the velocity of motion and the electrical resistance across the finger.
