With the Frames project we wanted to create something novel, surprising and slightly odd – only using one of the simplest and most accessible materials: paper. Based on our interpretation of the brief “make the invisible visible” we sought to show what happens behind the scenes of the visible by cutting holes in the curtain and show the backstage.

Inspired by Disney’s multiplane camera, we attached A4 printed pictures to a clothes line and relationally moved them closer to a camera on tripod. By changing the focus we sought to create a pseudo-illusion of going into and through a scene. While working with paper proved challenging because even slight movement were highly visible, we purposefully chose sketchiness as an aesthetic expression for project.
