Desktop clutter vs disk space analysis

This excercies was a small investigation into the relationship between people and their desktops. We surveyed people in our class trying to figure out if there is any link between the number of icons people store on their desktops and how many of them do they remember when questioned. At the same time we collected screenshots of their desktops to analyse the size and position of icons, hoping to find and underlying pattern in icon arrangment. The few pattern that became visible are the results system specificications – OS X align icons to the top right, Windows system to the top left, etc. We made an assumption that the quota of free disk space compare to the total disk size can be considered an index of ‘messiness’ (as ‘tidy’ users would do frequent backups and delete unused files) and included that into our final poster.
