Carbon Copy was a skills upgrade course that focused on exploring the use of common model making materials in a creative way – with certain constraints and limitations. These limitations were a way to challenge and push the boundaries of current thinking and imagination towards prototyping.

Digital fabrication is a great source for prototyping that is efficient and accurate especially when limited by time. However, often the tools can constrain how you design an object and therefore the interaction you have with it. For example, the laser cutter is sometimes used for simple actions that more traditional workshop equipment could easily achieve.

The brief for this course was to design an object that can be produced in multiple materials and still have the identical visual form.
