MeLa
The Role of Libraries and Museums in the Age of Migration
The goal of the MeLa project is to move away from the idea of museums and libraries as places of consolidation, conservation and transmission of the identity of a dominant social group. The aim is to define new strategies for a multi/inter-cultural organisation of conservation, exhibition and transmission of knowledge, in ways and forms that reflect the migration of people and ideas characterising Europe over the last 30 years.
The research is financed by the EU 7th Framework Programme with a consortium consisting of 9 partners: Politecnico Di Milano, Royal College of Art, Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle, Università degli Studi di Na- poli L’Orientale, University of Glasgow, University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, Consiglio Nazionale Delle Richerche, and Consorci del Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona.
In the MeLa project, CIID will mainly focus on investigating the role of Information and Com- munication Technology (ICT) in Museums, Libraries and Exhibition Design. In particular, CIID will draw on and apply its expertise in people centered design and prototyping to create new experiences to communicate the complexity of traditions, identities and cultures in the EU today.
In the context of designing new experiences for Museums and Libraries, CIID will create a network of Danish partners who are interested in exchanging knowledge on the research topic and want to join some of the research activities. These activities include a Think Tank and an International Conference in 2012
The MeLa website and blog provides a detailed description of the project’s mission and working structure, MeLa news, updates, forthcoming conferences, reports and open access documents about the project.
