Assisted Living Solutions For The Elderly

The project goal addresses elderly people with a sufficient level of autonomy for independent life, if they were to be suitably supported. It aims to preserve and enhance the independence of elderly people in all aspects of daily life – addressing activities at home, security, health care control – to guarantee them the possibility of taking an active part in the ‘self-service’ society. This includes providing the ability to access information and to be supported in getting necessary items if mobility outside of the house is a problem – and to secure social contacts and/or support, when necessary.

The devised solution consists of a home-based system that enables elderly people to deal with feeding and food-related tasks through the safe, effective and seamless integration of sensors and intelligent appliances that offer functionalities in the house in a rewarding way.

Its innovation lies in the integration and cooperation of Internet of things, Semantic Web and Web 2.0.

The research is financed by the EU and its consortium consists of 8 partners: INDESIT, Asso- ciazione Nazionale Mutilati ed Invalidi del Lavoro, Brainport Development, Department Of Social Services, Local Council Brasov, International Business School, Jönköping University, Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, Università degli Studi di Parma and Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design.

CIID’s role is to design user interfaces addressing areas such as accessibility, remote monitoring and control, user identification and personalisation, hazard awareness and proactive safety management.
