Press Release: Kolding School of Design joins forces with international design institute CIID

Thursday, 13th Jan 2011

Kolding School of Design enters an agreement with Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design on its international Masters programme in interaction design and service design.

From January 2011, the CIID Interaction Design Programme will be hosted by Kolding School of Design. This collaboration stems from mutual interests, especially with regards to the internationalisation of education and the formation of alliances with industry. The course will take place in a dedicated studio in Copenhagen, and CIID will continue to be responsible for the finance and administration of the programme.

CIID is an international hub that blends design and technology through education, research and consulting. The Interaction Design Programme is a Master’s level course that provides a unique environment for students, faculty and staff – who come from all around the world and different backgrounds – to work together in a multi-cultural, multi-disciplinary studio on a new curriculum that is relevant for academia and industry. The 19 students come from all over the world and pay a tuition fee of DKK 90,000.

Elsebeth Gerner Nielsen, Rector of Kolding School of Design, is excited to be hosting the CIID Interaction Design Programme: ”Not very many people know what interaction design is. However, we are in fact constantly surrounded by it, for instance in the form of new technologies and media. Interaction design as a design speciality is interesting because it combines the strong, Danish tradition for designing and user-involvement with these new technologies and media. Therefore, interaction design is a main action area at Kolding School of Design, and we are happy to be working with CIID; one of the great players in the field of interaction design.”

The Interaction Design Programme is sponsored by three Danish Companies: Novo Nordisk, Maersk and Velux. The programme also partners with a wide range of companies and organisations throughout the one-year curriculum. The outcome of these projects shows the potential of combining research and prototyping methods to create concepts that put real people at the centre of the design process – inspiring solutions for real life challenges.

The collaboration between CIID and Kolding School of Design will strengthen the reputation of Danish design both nationally and internationally – putting Denmark on the map for its competency in the field of interaction design and service design.
