Mary Paynter Sherwin

Mary Paynter Sherwin is a freelance writer, editor, and speaking coach in the Bay Area. Her client relationships have included The Designer Fund, Propelland, frog, MD2, Teague, IxDA Vancouver, and Draft FCB/The Hacker Group. Her most recent client collaboration was shortlisted for a 2015 Interaction Award for Empowering.

As a published writer, Mary has been a contributor to Breadloaf Writer’s Conference, Squaw Valley Community of Writers, and Kenyon Review Writers Conference. As an academic, Mary has taught and lectured at CIID, St. Mary’s College of California, California College of the Arts, and UW-Bothell. She lectures on storytelling, creativity, and the well-traveled intersection of art, design, and technology. Along with her husband, David Sherwin, she co-wrote Creative Workshop Teacher’s Guide and is currently working on a book exploring storytelling in design.

With an MFA in creative writing, a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts with a writing concentration, and a AAA in commercial photography, Mary is dedicated to furthering the education and professional development of the design community.
