James Zhou

Visiting Faculty
Nationality: Canada

James is an interaction designer at IDEO with a background in philosophy. He is interested in the intersections where design meets impact, tangible meets intangible, and human meets AI.
Before graduating from the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction design, he studied Industrial Design at the Umeå Institute of Design and philosophy at Macalester College. He worked at the Embassy of Canada in Beijing but was frustrated with the restrictions in the public sector. He studied design because he wanted to solve problems from a creative and hands-on approach. He believes that design is the perfect balance between creativity and impact.

For his final project, James created the Machine Ethics Toolkit. With this toolkit, anyone can facilitate a workshop to learn philosophical moral theories and an ethical decision-making framework. This toolkit aims to encourage companies to integrate ethical considerations into their workflow and think critically about their work. Download the toolkit at https://machineethicstoolkit.com/
