Ciarán Duffy

Ciarán works as a UX and Service Designer at IXDS, Berlin. In this role, he enjoys helping organizations create new value for their users, and bring about a positive impact in the lives of people.

Originally from Ireland, Ciarán has also lived in USA, France, Japan, and Denmark, before moving to Germany. He has taken the scenic route to a career in design— initially studying Music and French at Trinity College, Dublin, and specializing in Music Composition. After some years working as a musician and English teacher around the world, he attended Copenhagen Institute for Interaction Design in 2015. Here, he learned to build empathy with users, and bring concepts to life through rapid prototyping.

At IXDS, Ciarán aims to work with diverse clients, and learn from the inspirational team around him. He believes that critical design thinking is crucial to success in innovation—ensuring that new or creative ideas are relevant and useful.

On Fridays, Ciarán works at the impact-design collective he co-founded, Social Projects. There, he helps humanitarian organizations, NGOs, startups, and volunteer networks deploy innovative services, such as a chatbot for refugees.

In his spare time, he enjoys playing piano and saxophone, cooking for friends and family, photography, and travelling to new places. He is always following at least one online course in anything from machine learning to sketching.
