Christian Hertlein

IDP Final Project Examiner – 2015

Christian is an interaction designer with IDEO’s Munich studio. Combining his human- centered design skills with his broad knowledge of visual, digital and physical tools, he is committed to creating engaging and impactful user experiences, and is especially astute at devising simple and effective design solutions from complex data sets.

Since joining IDEO, Christian has been deeply involved in projects that meet at the intersection of design, technology and human behavior. Working with clients from a wide range of industries, including automotive, financial services and telecoms, he is focused on designing and developing technology for the creation of objects and interfaces that evoke emotion, creativity, and often a bit of whimsy as well.

Christian is also dedicated to promoting interaction design as a discipline. Through the creation of the Digital Drum Beat, a weekly presentation showcasing the work of IDEO Munich’s interaction design community, Christian is fostering collaboration and the exchange of ideas not only amongst the interaction design group, but across design disciplines.

Prior to IDEO, Christian headed his own design firm in Berlin, Designverket. He has also worked as a mobile interface designer with Deutsche Telekom Laboratories, as an interface design developer with Interaction Design Lab in Potsdam, and as a car-interaction designer with IxDS in Berlin. He holds a bachelors degree in interaction design from the Potsdam University of Applied Sciences and participated in the master’s in design program at Malmö University, Sweden.

Outside of work Christian is driven by a curiosity to discover the unfamiliar, and is constantly in pursuit of the new. Otherwise he can be found engaging in one of his various outdoor activities, like snowboarding, surfing, or swimming.
