FAQs

When is the application deadline?
The deadline for the 2010 summer school has passed. Information about future summer schools and other short courses will be announced via our mailing list.

How much does it cost?
€450, per module (one week=one module)

Is a portfolio required?
Yes. If you don’t have a portfolio please send at least one example of work.

Is this a credit course?
No.

Should I participate in one, two or all three of the workshops?
We would encourage you to participate in the full three weeks of the summer school as despite the skills you will learn being quite different, they naturally lead in to one another. From a team building perspective you will build closer relationships with your peers – and of course the weekends will be free for you to enjoy some time off in the capital city.

How much interaction design experience do I need?
None, some or lots. We are looking for a diverse group of individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and experience.

Do I need prior knowledge of specific software/hardware/electronics?
Some applicants may already be experts in programming and electronics, others will have no experience at all. The idea is that skills will cross-pollinate across the group via teamwork and collaboration.

What is the language of instruction?
The official language of CIID is English. Many of the faculty and staff at the institute are fluent in other languages but all summer school communication and materials will be delivered in English.

What kind of equipment should I bring?
A laptop is required. The studio will have WiFi access and a printer. Digital cameras and hand-held video recorders could also be useful but they are not at all essential.

Am I required to pay a deposit?
Yes. On acceptance you will be asked to make a 25% non-refundable deposit of the total cost of your time here.

Is there financial aid or scholarship available?
There is no financial aid or scholarships for this programme.

What is included in the tuition?
The tuition fee only covers the workshop and materials. It does not include accommodation, meals or transportation.

Are flights included in the fee?
No, this should be organised and paid for by the individual.

What are the best flights?
Several airlines have direct flights to Copenhagen. Some long-haul flights may go via London, Paris or Amsterdam. Participants are responsible for their own flight arrangements. Please book your flights as soon as you have been notified of your acceptance on to the summer school.

When booking your flight, you will need to arrive at least one day before the start of the workshop to check in to your accommodation. Discounted airfare can be found through websites such as: http://en.momondo.com, www.expedia.com, www.travelocity.com and www.cheaptickets.com. It’s possible group rates are available if there are enough people coming from one city but this would need to be organised directly with your airline.

Where will I sleep?
Accommodation is not included in the tuition fee. There are a number of relatively cheap options available including hostels, B&B and small hotels. We will provide participants with a list of these.

Can I share accommodation?
This is up to the individual – we will set up a password protected summer school forum for participants to get to know each other a little before their arrival in Copenhagen. Room/apartment sharing can be discussed here.

Am I required to be present every day of the workshop or can I explore the city?
The programme will be intense as there is a lot to learn in a short period of time. Irrelevant of whether you plan to attend one week or three weeks of this modular programme you will be expected to be in the studio every working day. We cannot offer discounts to those who miss days for any reason, including illness.

Denmark is wonderful in the summer so we would encourage you to book extra days for your stay in Copenhagen to explore the city and further afield.
