Studying Light and Color

We set out to create an multi-step artistic study that combines our new learnings in building electronic circuits with our interest in art. We began by playing with light and color.

Inspired by studio art classes, we created our own set of color wheels. Each swatch on the color wheel has its own opacity, brush style, and color. We held up several LEDs (of varying strengths) behind each swatch to observe how the light interacts with each surface. Then, we added a new variable into the mix: heat. As the temperature changed, each thermochromatic paint swatch created a new design based on how the wire was coiled.

With respect to light, we began experimenting with series and parallel circuits to convey a journey across the page. As the light moves from point A to point B, it goes from dim to bright as it nears its destination, and blinks when it finally arrives.
