Sea Waves

This is an electronic exploration called Sea Waves, inspired by the outline and texture of a metallic wave-shaped material. The goal of this project is to explore the opportunities for interaction among form, sound, and light using analog properties of different electronic materials and how this combination can create a beautiful art installation.

There are two independent circuits in this installation. One part controls the sound, with electronic components from a toy piano that has been taken apart. Another part controls the lighting, which is a set of connecting LEDs placed underneath paper designed to mimic the motion of waves. There’s a “keyboard” button that closes the two circuits at the same time. The circuits are closed when each keyboard button is pressed during the composition of your own song. This interaction creates a beautiful scene of illuminating sea waves.

This is a one day project designed and built in the Materials of Electronic class.
