AR moth

Can a character living in AR sense our “normal,” conventional reality (CR)? How do they react to things that happen here? Where do AR and CR touch? Has CR control over the AR or vice versa? – To explore this space, we built a light-sensing AR moth.

A human’s triggering of a real light switch triggers a change in the virtual world that the AR moth senses. Whenever the real light goes on, a virtual light sitting on top of the light switch is activated. The AR moth then acts as a virtual light switch. Whenever it touches the virtual light, the real light goes off.

In this short two day project, the team learned to use AR-technologies (Unity) in combination with physical computing (Raspberry Pi) and networking (websockets). More technical information is here.
