Project Vox

Virtual assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant are on the rise in popularity and ubiquity. They’re marketed as female coded, obliging personas which can sometimes frustrate users with bad answers, incomprehension and dead ends. Although we’ve been quick to allow these devices into our most intimate spaces, our understanding of them is perhaps lacking.

Project Vox is a set of guidelines for a more transparent and socially equitable way to interact with voice assistants. By giving the user a more active role in teaching AIs how to best be of help, and by communicating confidence (or lack thereof) when required, Project Vox aims to leverage the best of both intelligences – human and artificial – to envision a virtual assistant of the future.
