Piano Skateboard

Could you learn to skateboard through sound? The electric skateboard began as an exploration of several electronic materials such as copper tape, conductive thread and conductive fabrics with the soundboard of a toy piano.

For the primary exploration, electric fabric buttons were made from layers of conductive fabric and felt sewn together. These buttons were tested and optimized with different types of conductive fabric and wiring – the most robust buttons were place on the five foot positions for riding and simple tricks.

Each button position was linked to a different tone in the soundboard using copper tape, for future iterations – only correct foot positions would return harmonic sounds (which could be adjusted for regular or goofy stances) and a beginner could learn through hearing.
