Auras was created by Surojit, Juliana and Jing during the IDP’s Machine Learning course, taught by Andreas Refsgard and Gene Kogan. Auras visualizes the emotions underlying people’s physical interactions. It uses machine learning to match body language with a range of emotions, and projection mapping to bring those emotions to life as colorful “auras”. Auras was born out of an interest in using machine learning to explore emotions and physicality, and inspired by technology’s power to make invisible, fleeting experiences into something more tangible. The team prioritized the experience of participants in their design process, aiming to create a sense of shared connection within each group that tried it.

Auras was built over the course of a week using Processing, Wekinator, and an Xbox Kinect.
