Inflection Point

When a woman gives birth, significant biological and individual changes take place that can shift identity drastically. By the time a woman’s children are no longer dependent on her, her environment and the society around her may have changed entirely. How drastic this transition is and what lifelong challenges it poses varies greatly depending on the cultural and environmental context. Inflection Point investigates the nature of growth experiences in older mothers and design opportunities for societal inclusion of this demographic.

The output of these explorations is a collection of playful everyday objects, presented as artefacts from a fictional “mothers movement” that visualize nuanced changes in our everyday interactions that would increase representation of this demographics experiences.

Project Focuses: Design Research, Storytelling, Critical Design and Systems Thinking.
