Spotify Bracelet

The Materials of Electronics class was an introduction to using Arduino, basic programming, electronic components and experimental materials. These skills were used to create the Spotify bracelet: a wearable that reflects the colors of the album art that the wearer is currently listening to.

Programmed using Arduino and NodeJS, the bracelet takes the currently playing song from Spotify or last.fm, and locates the album art online and downloads it. Once the file is locally stored, the program processes it to find the set of most dominant colors present in the image. The top three color values of these are sent to each light on the bracelet, and the colors change as each song changes.

Alternatively, the colors could be programmed to change according to the genre of music being played – the intention was to create a tangible accessory that would visually reflect the wearer’s taste in music.
