At the beginning of this project, Andreas, Haoyu and Vihanga went out for interview and research with various stakeholders. From the information collected, they decided to focus on the tourist group. The insight showed some gap between the expectation from tourists and what information is available. Tourists cannot find right historical information and also restaurant recommendation at many attraction spots. One interesting find was some people ask for help from souvenir shop, which provide more personal information according to different taste and personality.

After the barnstorming session, this group decided to provide more in-depth background information and create an engaging interaction experience.

CONCEPT 1: The first idea was to show how the historical building evolves in the timeline of history, they used Microsoft Kinect to track body gesture to interact with the timeline. The feedback from user testing was not very good, it felt like something extra to interfere the interaction with information.

CONCEPT 2: The second idea was inspired by avatar, tourists could take photos with suites from different characters who used to live in the historical attraction. And user are able to print the photos from the kiosk for small mount of money, with some recommendations on the back side of the photo. To make the tourist kiosk more playful, the appearance of the machine would be more related to the location where it is and applied a character. Many users liked the new way the kiosk looks, as well as the experience to take photos in a different dresses.

CONCLUSION: From prototyping and user testing, location-based hyperlocal service would be very helpful for tourists at certain attraction spot. Secondly, connect similar places in the city and make it easily accessible for tourists. Last but not least, making the appearance of kiosk more playful and providing several avatars for interactions would also enhance engaging experience.
