During this one week class, we focused on a network of objects and how they might communicate with one another in a connected environment. We began by thinking of various household items and how they might work together to create different moods using a hands free device. Eventually we came up with the idea for ‘Matmosphere’.

‘Matmosphere’ is an input device that allows the user to activate different moods within a house by stepping on preset code patterns in a door mat. After inserting the door key, the sensors in the ‘Matmosphere’ are initiated and code entries for ’Party Mood’, ‘Romantic Mood’, and ‘Drunk Mood’ can be input given the user’s preference. ‘Matmosphere’ was designed to poke fun at the ‘Smart Home’ concept, and spoofs a silly, yet possible trend in the connectivity of objects in a domestic environment.
