Shruti Ramiah

Country: India
Area of Expertise: Interface Design, Design research

Shruti graduated in Communication Design from Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology (Bangalore, India) in December 2006. In the five and half years spent there, she dabbled in a number of things including graphic design, photography, design research & interaction design. In 2005, she was an exchange student at Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland for six months studying photography. Her graduation project sought to explore the intersection of the areas she had worked in. She researched how users of social network sites harness the image related tools provided by website interfaces, in order to express themselves.

For the last two and half years, Shruti worked with Nokia Research Center, Helsinki and Nokia, Bangalore doing interaction design and research. Her key contributions were to the Linked UI concept design and the Nokia Life Tools application for emerging markets.

She comes to the Interaction Design Programme with some questions: How can interaction design and art come together to impact choices, influence behaviour and create change? How can the big concerns of today such as the environment be addressed through design and art?

In the coming year Shruti hopes to find some answers. For now though, these questions have her flummoxed!
