Emerging from Disorder

Emerging from Disorder is a browsing tool for Flickr photos that works on ‘disordering’ instead of ordering items. It allows the disordering of a set of photos to enhance free visual association as a tool for discovery and inspiration. The software aims to allow emergence from chaos.

Data visualisation is one of the core topics of contemporary interaction design. The focus of data visualisation is on how to give easy access to an incredible amount of data through intelligent organising, tagging, clustering, filtering… the problem is how to create order from all this data.

When the program is launched, a set of the most recently uploaded pictures appear in the screen. The user can go through them, disordering the items on the screen. The user can also select photos that they like and ask the program to search for new items, filtering by the tags of those ones.
