Visualizing Power Consumption

This poster displays the power usage of a household, taken from an energy meter over several days, repeatedly plotted over a 24-hour cycle. By presenting this normally dry data in a form that illuminates and exaggerates, it allows stories to be both told and imagined, and energy usage patterns to be better understood.

Was that spike at 3am a one-off nighttime cup of tea… and can boiling the kettle just once really use so much power? That consistent peak must be dinnertime. Is that wave in the graph, visible at night, the fridge on its cycle, running all day every day?
