Irene Edwards

Head of Communications
Nationality:
American

Fresh off a move to Copenhagen from the San Francisco Bay Area, Irene is thrilled to join CIID at such a pivotal time in its growth — and to spread the word about its exciting initiatives. As head of communications, she is responsible for creating and amplifying the strategic messaging around CIID across internal and external channels, including press and social media, and building a narrative around the institute’s global network of talent to help extend its influence.

Irene spent 20 years as a journalist and editor in New York City and San Francisco, most recently as editor-in-chief of a 120-year-old magazine called Sunset. She has also been an editor at Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler magazines and co-authored the book SPA for Taschen. Storytelling and collaboration are integral to her work; she is passionate about surrounding herself with diverse and dynamic teams and immersing herself in CIID’s life-centred design process to seek out innovative ways of sharing it with the outside world.

Irene grew up in Manila, Milan, and New York City, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Northwestern University near Chicago. In true journalist fashion, she’s never afraid to ask a question—and is always fascinated by the answer.
